Q & A :
(2) Why need to emphasize the doping-free Sport Nutrition?
To support and promote fundamental values in sport, IOC (International Olympic Committee) and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and other sport organizations and governments are now united in the efforts to achieve completely drug free sport.
Richard W. POUND, Q.C. Th Chairman of WADA said: "2004 represented a crucial year for the entire fight against doping in sport. This was the year when the World Anti-Doping Code was implemented by sports organizations prior to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece." "The key to continued success in the fight against doping is for the collaboration between the sports movement and the public authorities to continue in force. With each playing an active and critical role, and each pledging its complete support to the Code, we are much closer to achieving our goal of doping-free sport."
However WADA
found: "The use of dietary supplements by
athletes is a concern to WADA because in many countries the manufacturing of
dietary supplements is not appropriately regulated by the government. This means
that the ingredients on the inside may not match those listed on the outside of
the box or package. In some cases, the undeclared substances found in the
supplement can include one that is prohibited under anti-doping
regulations.
A significant number of positive tests have been attributed to the misuse of
supplements. It is WADA’s position that a good diet is of utmost importance to athletes
competing on the international stage. WADA is also very concerned about the
number of athletes who are prepared to take supplements with little knowledge of
what real benefits they provide and whether or not they contain prohibited
substances. Taking a poorly labeled dietary supplement is not an adequate
defense in a doping hearing. Athletes should be aware of the dangers of
potential contamination of supplements and of the principle of strict
liability."
